Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire, a quiet neighbourhood situated in the West Island of Montreal is something you could call a "sleepy" place. It is the West Island, to those who are unfamiliar with it, is an extensive region that runs from Lachine up to the west. Amanda Brugel was born there, but her time there was short. Brugel grew up in Courtice close to Oshawa Ontario. Initial plans were to be an actor, however she was able to outgrow her dancers. In an article in the Toronto Star she admitted In heels I'm 6 feet 1 inch. When I grew out of male companions, I quit. In the case of Brugel, it was her encouragement from an instructor in drama from her high school, which prompted her to pursue acting. The teacher suggested that she try her hand at a character in the school's annual production. The teacher who suggested that she pursue a role in the school's annual show. It was her turn to be awarded a Fine Arts Talent Scholarship to attend York University's Theatre Program, where she graduated at the age of 20 with a degree in Fine Arts. Through the years since then, Brugel was offered roles in more than 60 productions across the big and small screens drawing the most attention when she landed the role of Rita on the award-winning TV series The Handmaid's Tale (pictured below). Brugel was the sole Canadian participant during the season 1 of the show and was rarely seen.
